The Bahamian government has temporarily halted all SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket landings in its territory, pending the outcome of an environmental review and debris assessment. The move comes after a SpaceX Starship exploded in March, dispersing fragments across Bahamian airspace.

Bahamian Director of Communications Latrae Rahming announced the decision on social media platform X, noting that no future landings will be authorized until a complete environmental evaluation is completed. Prior to the suspension, the government had approved 19 Falcon 9 landings for 2025, each requiring separate regulatory clearances.

The explosion involved a Starship vehicle launched from Texas, which disintegrated shortly after liftoff. Debris from the incident was seen falling near South Florida and the Bahamas, prompting environmental and safety concerns. Authorities have stated that the fragments do not contain hazardous substances and do not threaten marine ecosystems, but the unexpected fallout led to increased scrutiny.

SpaceX has not issued a formal response to the Bahamas' announcement. The aerospace company had been working alongside Bahamian authorities to facilitate Falcon 9 landings as part of its reusability strategy. The pause will remain in place while officials conduct a thorough environmental impact assessment.

The Bahamian government highlighted the need to balance technological advancements with environmental preservation. Findings from the ongoing review will determine whether future SpaceX landings can resume.
